Eye of Truth

By Ahab Chopra

I sat facing the Camera and it clicked

too

fast

for my eyes to register.

did I blink or did

the Camera?

“The Camera!

don’t forget the Camera!”

my dad yelled across the house

afraid we would be

too

forgetful

to remember the fields of lilies

and rubber.

and rubber

bul- l-

et.

in his left eye.

Muath Amarneh,

the Palestinian journalist,

too

slow

to save his eye

although his camera

stayed blinking,

registering.
